There aren’t that many scrapers in Starlock. The Flex sorta tempts me because of the Starlock quick release.īut I’ve also got, for example, something like 15 different types of surface scrapers. I suspect the Makita vibration is lower, but I haven’t tried it. It lets me position the tool and pause and think. It’s got three levels of max speed, and it has a trigger. Definitely much lower vibration than the 2013 Fein I have. I actually have the Kobalt gen 2 OMT and it’s surprisingly good. Trying to trim wood near a corner without getting in the way of your lights is tough. I have determined that I need that feature. If I’m going to upgrade to a fancy new tool with expensive blades, I want the snazzy press the blade in feature!įein’s tools don’t have LEDs on them. My 10 year old non-Starlock Fein has a quick release with a pin. (Except the Bosch 12v which has a hex key and no quick release) The other Starlock tools have a prong design so that the blade just drops out and you install a new one by pressing it into place. There’s a pin that comes out which you have to fully remove to change blades. The Makita tool has a quick release but it’s not nearly as nifty as the Fein, Bosch 18v or Flex ones. I’ve watched an unreasonable number of comparisons of different oscillating tools and I do not believe there are any differences you’ll notice during use. There is a lot of marketing talk about theoretical benefits.
